James Gurney, the illustrator of Dinotopia, who i have loved for many years. As a kid i loved dinosaurs and these books showing an amazing world where people lived with them were amazing. Plus he made it all seem real by saying that he found this journal in a library with all the paintings of this secret continent in.

and there was a map at the beginning, and anyone who knows me, knows that i will love a book if it has a map in the front.
(my finished book is totally going to have a galactic map at the beginning)

and also, here's a picture of the new doctor's new assistant from Doctor Who 2010. She is a fine looking woman.

the new doctor has a 'science teacher from the 50s' chic which i like. kind of like indiana jones when he's a university lecturer. plus its all being written by Stephen Moffat who wrote blink and the satan's pit episodes. I think this series is gonna rule.

we've still got the tennant christmas specials to come yet though... Doctor Who makes christmas for me

here's a commission i did for a friend yesterday... he doesn't know about it, his wife got in contact and asked me to do him something for his christmas present. here's hopin he likes it

im three pages in and loving it
this one's about a ring of honeymoon vessels all around the edge of the galaxy called the Carousel Lumiere.
All my stories seem to be about couples on spaceships at the moment. i assure it is not a trend.

also, i know the lens flare is a point of controversy but i need this to be grand and light fantastic if you know what i mean

i got some rad stuff and there's more to come apparently! Notably some spiderman cufflinks and a shirt with kermit's body on... SO MY HEAD IS HIS HEAD. brilliant

i also got a tasty new multitouch tablet which is ULTRA

but an unexpected gift, and one i cherish, is that of ENGRISH. everybody loves a good bout with badly translated packaging so here's a coupla rounds with the box for a christmas present i bought one of my mates:

in other news i discovered a fantastic website. www.illustrationartgallery.com. specialising in signed and limited edition prints by huge name comic book illustrators. And the prices aren't ridiculous. some are down right affordable. this is art for me. well drawn technically brilliant stuff at a price people can take home. check some moebius and manara i found there:

that last one, the manara is amazing, and only 75quid! im THIS close to buying it. literally hovering over 'buy', it could be a bday present to myself...

here's a couple of recent things then
things that i am most happy with... i had the sketches of these out at leeds comiccon and got a lot of tasty feedback so i thought id colour them up all nice.

when i got to leeds, i was overwhelmed, the place was huge and just walking to my table i saw more talent than i had seen under one roof ever before. I decided that if i sold ONE thing i would be happy, as competing with some of these fine stalworts of the keyline was next to impossible.

Instead i nearly sold everything! i got some of the best feedback i have ever received and chatted to some awesome artists (Will who draws the awesome 'The Sea' and Lou with her rad 'Mephisto' books) who also liked my stuff and bought it! i was amazed. I drew pretty much solidly from 10 til 5, sketches for random dudes. i must have drawn three batmans, a gambit, a rorschach and a coupla wolverines.

people really dug my stuff which has just fired me up so hard.
im gonna get my head down now and crank my brain wheels, get the hand printing and the head thinking

I feel ive been a bit mean to poor old livejournal.
Its not that i don't care, its just... well its not you its me... so, and, well, hmmmmm

in short, i'd like to make it part of my life again.
all this talk of people (artists ((comic book artists)) ) using livejournal AND deviantart AND updating their websites always seemed like too much effort for me, but HECK! HOLD ON THERE JIMMY McGEE

THIS IS MY FREAKIN CAREER

nothing should be too much effort in that vein. I should be eating, sleeping, drooling, dreaming, horking, screaming, sewing and cleaning comix... and I am. Im just NOT blogging and self promoting, shamelessly plugging and marketing

so here we go, the beginning of a better online Nich. its starts here and continues on into space, riding the infinity cascade until i hit the galactic roof and break the 5th wall, ending up in the lap of the person who is reading my story... and then i will punch him in the face and scream BUY MY COMIX before diving back into the pocket universe i call my drawing and churning the barrel until my eyes turn into Tintin eye dots and my hand seizes up into a ginger root.

THE CANS FESTIVAL

The cans festival was amazing... it was crazy. me and friends dave and kate raced up to london, it was around a 2 or 3 hour trip to get there cos some of the trains were off... we didnt get there til 9. the place closed at 10!! we were in london for under and hour and then we zoomed back to salisbury.
BUT IT WAS INCREDIBLE... the sort of event that just needs to happen more... not necessarily street art but, open to everyone, free entry, incredibly varied, adding your own stuff allowed and backed by brilliant tunes.
it was an amazing hour and ill let these pictures speak for themselves...
